The Call (2019) for mixed choir and organ
commissioned by Sue Hoaglund, in celebration of the life of Dennis Schmidt.

Premiered October 13, 2019 by the Choir of St. David’s in Radnor, PA, Clair Rozier, director. 

Dennis Schmidt was a friend, and as an organist at St. Paul's, a colleague. He was unreasonably fond of J.S. Bach, and also of the golden age of Anglican church music.
When his partner Sue Hoaglund asked me to write an anthem to be premiered on what would have been his 70th birthday, I sought to compose something that he might have liked, including nods to his favorite repertoire.
