Christmas, Here (2014)
for the 2014 Fletcher Holiday card
After a couple of years featuring a new choral piece, we decided to mix things up a bit by recording a "pop" tune. The words are by my wife Margaret, and the recording below features Margaret, my daughter Livy (who's 13 at the time of recording) and me on all the instruments and a little singing.
This doesn't exist as sheet music, although if there were an interest, I'm sure it could be arranged...
Here's the video we made:
And the audio only: Christmas, Here
The text:
Here, a mother, overcome by love,
Ponders a moment, this whisper from above.
"How could this be? A wonder is growing."
Unsteady, unsure, no claim on knowing,
And ready to own her part,
To open and hold in her heart...
(Chorus)
The love of this world
Masked by fear, lost in grieving,
The love of this world,
Found in being, clear seeing,
This love, great love, pure love of this world,
It is here.
Here, a father, he sees what is true.
"In whole understanding, I will marry you."
Steady and sure, no need to perfect,
With faith to endure, with arms to protect,
And ready to stand his ground,
To shelter, uphold and surround...
(Chorus)
The love of this world
Makes a roof for the lost.
The love of this world
Finds a crib, warm and soft.
This love, great love, pure love of the world,
It is here.
(Bridge)
Here, a baby, innocence alive,
Here, a treasure, peace now arrives,
Here, a promise, grace all around,
Here, a freshness, love now come down
(Chorus)
The love of this world
The light in our eyes,
The love of this world,
Wide as the skies,
The love of this world,
Makes a roof for the lost,
The love of this world,
Finds a crib, warm and soft
The love of this world,
Means the end of all grieving,
The love of this world,
Found in being, clear seeing,
The love, great love, pure love of this world,
It is here.
